FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Haley Meinen homered and Rylie Spell drove in the game-winning run with a double in the fifth inning as Tulsa went on the road to defeat No. 14 Arkansas on Wednesday night, 2-1, at Bogle Park.
Kassidy Scott pitched the final four innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four to earn the win for the Golden Hurricane (14-8), who has won nine of its last 11 games against the Razorbacks (19-6). Scott improved to 4-1 on the season with the victory.
Ashley Diaz went 2-for-4 to pace Arkansas, while Mary Haff took the loss with two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
The Razorbacks jumped ahead early with a run off Tulsa starter Chenise Delce. With two outs, Taylor Greene hit an RBI single to left field to give the home squad a short-lived advantage.
Meinen made sure the lead did not last and she erased the deficit with a lead-off homer in the top of the second. The blast to left was the senior’s second of the spring and knotted the game at 1-1.
Scott came into the contest after the third inning and Tulsa took the lead for good in the top of the fifth. Alexis Perry ripped a one-out single to left before Spell doubled to deep center field. Perry raced all the way around the bases for the 2-1 advantage.
Scott made sure the lead held up with two strikeouts in the sixth before she worked around an error in the seventh to close out the win.
The Razorbacks put the go-ahead run on base with just one out, but Scott got two grounders to escape the jam and give Tulsa the 2-1 win.
The Hurricane will be back in action this weekend for four games at the Rock Chalk Challenge in Lawrence, Kan. TU will open against the host Jayhawks at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
