HIGHLIGHTS: It wasn’t pretty. Much like the weather, the XFL season opener between the Dallas Renegades and St. Louis BattleHawks was far from perfect.

The Renegades and Bob Stoops fall to St. Louis 15-9.

It had been 1,133 days since Stoops last coached a game. His tenure at Oklahoma lasted 18 years and included a national title before a surprising retirement in 2017. Stoops remained positive despite the his first loss.

“It was great, outside of the outcome. But the only silver lining there too is that they’re not in our division. So, it doesn’t sting quite as much but it still stings,” Stoops went on to say that he is excited to be back coaching, but that his return was about football and not himself.
“I hadn’t forgotten. I was excited to be back on the sidelines for sure.”
